#31day October Writing Challenge >>> Day 14!

Being a servant.

Gulp.

The Bible speaks repeatedly about being a servant, to everyone.
One of the questions at church this weekend was this:
In what specific ways is God calling you to be more Christ-like, and grow as a servant?

Servant: sur-vuh-nt

[a person in the service of another]

Sickly, it's easy for me to feel I've paid my dues as a servant. As a mother and wife, it feels like I am giving constantly. And I lived in an orphanage in Africa... what better serving is that?
I've earned my badge, right?

Ewwwww. It doesn't get much uglier than that.

It's quite humbling when you listen to God, and quite scary when it reveals the nasty in us.

Giving and serving others has been something that I've been struggling with. My time, my energy, my desire. Yet the burden has been knocking at my door. This Sunday, my door crushed open and I can't deny the lingering lesson God has been trying to teach me.

"He has shown you what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk HUMBLY with your God. " -Micah 6:8

What ways do you find yourself missing the things Jesus is teaching you, because your thoughts are consumed with your own plans?

What ugly do you have?

Let's spend time praying away the icky in us.

My prayer is to live like a servant. To all.
Why does that scare me?
Lord, humble me and teach me your ways.

On another note, how do I keep this lady basil alive? It's like my 15th basil plant...

  1. Your poor plant might need a bigger pot for its roots to grow! I've had a basil plant growing in a big pot since March and it hasn't stopped producing me yummy pesto yet :)

  2. you're so cute, sis! I have more luck with basil in SD than I did in Vegas, but I think Ashley is right. You probably need to transfer it to a bigger pot. xoxoxo

  3. praying for humility is a very scary prayer! You are a BRAVE woman. Luke & Ireland are blessed to have a wife & mommy like you--always willing to stretch, learn & grow. It's a lifelong process, so proud of you! xo
